Relax, soak up the sun and swim in the open air - the Ringallee swimming centre is now open again. Stadtwerke Gießen will open the 2015 outdoor pool season on 13 May, while the Lützellinden and Kleinlinden outdoor pools will open a little later - probably at the end of May.
The Ringallee outdoor pool will open its doors for the first time this year at 9 a.m. on 13 May. If the weather shows its sunny side, the first queue of visitors may form right at the start of the season. "Anyone who remembers last summer will probably want to take every opportunity to relax and swim in the open air in 2015," says Reinhard Paul, Technical Director of Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG), confidently. He is hoping for more hours of sunshine and less rain.
Over the past few weeks, SWG has been preparing the outdoor pool for the first rush of visitors. They overhauled the technical facilities, maintained the green areas and replaced the sand on the water playground, among other things. As always, there was also some minor repair work to be done. However, Stadtwerke Gießen did not have to repair the usual winter damage in the swimmers' pool - caused by frost - this spring. This is because SWG has been heating the water in the large pool in a climate-friendly way since 2014 - keeping it above freezing even during the winter months. The energy for this comes from the residual heat in the exhaust gas from the combined heat and power plant on the outdoor pool site. Reinhard Paul explains: "Normally, this heat would escape into the environment. We use it sensibly and even increase comfort for the swimmers when the summer temperatures are a little cooler."
Prices and opening times as in 2014
In addition to the prospect of the upcoming outdoor pool season, Giessen residents should also be pleased that everything will remain the same in terms of admission prices and opening times. The Ringallee outdoor pool opens its gates daily from 9 am to 8 pm. If you want to swim your laps away from the hustle and bustle of the pool, you can enter the pool from 7 a.m. with the early swimmer ticket. The single ticket still costs 2.80 euros. The 10-person ticket is available for 22.40 euros, the adult season ticket for 78.40 euros. The reduced season ticket price for children and those entitled to a discount is 52.30 euros. Family tickets for the entire season cost 156.80 euros.
Start in Kleinlinden and Lützellinden
As in previous years, the SWG outdoor pools in Kleinlinden and Lützellinden will start the season a little later than the Ringallee outdoor pool - probably at the end of May. The summer opening times also apply again for the Ringallee indoor pool: Indoor swimming pool from 8 am to 1 pm, sauna from 9 am to 1 pm. All information on opening times and prices is also available via the SWG service hotline on 0800 23 02 100 (Monday to Friday between 7 am and 7 pm) or on the SWG website at www.stadtwerke-giessen.de/baeder.
