On Tuesday, 21 May, Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) will open the outdoor pool at the Ringallee bathing centre. From 9 a.m., swimmers from Giessen and the surrounding area will once again be able to swim their lengths in the open air and enjoy the sunshine. "The long winter and frost well into April have made us look forward to summer even more than usual this year. If the weather plays along, we are guaranteed to see a rush of visitors in the first few days," says Reinhard Paul, SWG's Technical Director, with confidence.
Until recently, it was not yet clear whether SWG would be able to open the outdoor pool in May. During the work for the State Garden Show on the Ringallee site, the sewage pipe of the functional buildings had been closed by mistake. The civil engineering company responsible has since cleared the pipe.
Construction of a new attraction
From 21 May, bathers will be able to enter the outdoor pool via the newly designed main entrance. "That's not the only thing that has changed," explained Reinhard Paul during a press event on Tuesday, 14 May. Because SWG is currently building an attraction for families - a large water playground. "This summer, the play landscape will take shape and families can marvel at what they can look forward to from the 2014 bathing season. Every time they visit, they are sure to discover something new and experience the construction progress live," explained Reinhard Paul. SWG is also building a combined heat and power plant on the site, which will feed into the district heating network. The SWG board member said: "We want bathers to notice as little as possible of the construction sites. Unfortunately, it cannot be completely avoided, for which we apologise."
A look at the admission prices and opening times shows no change compared to last year. The single ticket still costs 2.40 euros, the 5-person ticket 9.60 euros and the season ticket for adults 67.20 euros. The reduced annual ticket price for children and those entitled to a discount is 44.80 euros. Family tickets for the entire season are available for 134.40 euros. If you opt for a season ticket, SWG also offers you the opportunity to purchase a so-called early swimmer ticket. This entitles you to enter from 7 a.m. - ideal for all swimmers who want to swim their laps away from the usual hustle and bustle.
For all other swimmers, the Ringallee outdoor pool opens at 9 am and closes at 8 pm.
Start in Kleinlinden and Lützellinden
As usual, the season in the SWG outdoor pools in Kleinlinden and Lützellinden starts a few days after the opening of the Ringallee outdoor pool - probably at the end of May.
All information on opening times and prices is available Monday to Friday between 7 am and 7 pm via the SWG service hotline on 0800 23 02 100 or on the SWG website www.stadtwerke-giessen.de under the heading "Bäder".
