The natural gas car alternative will soon also be of interest in Giessen. Stadtwerke Gießen AG (SWG) and ARAL are building the first natural gas filling station in the city and district of Gießen. The Giessen-based energy and water supplier wants to actively promote the market launch of natural gas as a fuel in the region.

At the end of March, the municipal utilities want to finalise the joint project with their upstream supplier Ruhrgas AG and the Aral Group and officially put the facility into operation. SWG would like to use the upcoming opening to inform interested parties about natural gas as a fuel together with the operator of the Aral petrol station, Markus Mederer. Because driving with natural gas has a future. The unrivalled low price and environmental benefits characterise natural gas as a fuel. The fact that natural gas is categorised as the optimal fuel is illustrated by its low carbon content. Compared to other fossil fuels, it produces the least amount of carbon dioxide during combustion. The combustion of natural gas is practically soot and particle-free. With this project, Stadtwerke and Aral are not only making a contribution to climate protection, but also filling a blank spot on the map of the petrol station network. Until now, it has not been possible for drivers to refuel with natural gas in this area.

The refuelling process at the new filling station takes just as long as refuelling with conventional fuels. This type of refuelling is not only fast, but also simple. The fuelling nozzle is placed on the filler neck, the lever is flipped and the refuelling process starts. When the tank is full, the refuelling process ends automatically.

The energy advisors at the infoCentre on the market square are available for a personal consultation from Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 18:00 and on Saturdays from 09:00 to 14:00. Anyone interested in finding out more about natural gas as a fuel should definitely take advantage of the forthcoming opening. As part of the opening, the municipal utilities will be presenting their programme offering financial incentives for switching to natural gas.
