In its "Energy Knowledge on Tuesday" lecture series, Stadtwerke Gießen will be providing information on the topic of photovoltaics on 25 April.

Solar energy is gaining momentum in Germany: In January 2023 alone, more than 60,000 new systems were connected to the grid. Around three times as many as a year ago in the same period. No wonder, because a photovoltaic system (PV system) on the roof pays off in more ways than one. It produces clean green electricity that can easily cover large parts of your own electricity needs. This is not only environmentally friendly, but also makes sense in view of the continuing high energy prices: "If you use your own solar power, you reduce your electricity bill with every single kilowatt hour. This protects your wallet and the climate in the long term," calculates Martin Lorenz, energy consultant at Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG). As part of the SWG lecture series "Energy Knowledge on Tuesday" on 25 April, the expert will explain, among other things, which requirements must be met for the economical operation of a PV system and how the proportion of self-use can be increased - backed up with practical examples.

Solar power - is it worth it?
The economic operation of a solar power system depends on various factors. These include structural conditions - such as the size of the roof, its pitch and orientation and any shading. "However, the efficiency of solar modules has improved significantly in recent years. That's why the investment is often worthwhile even if not all the requirements are fully met," says Martin Lorenz. Today, it is much more important to maximise self-consumption. "The more, the better," emphasises the energy expert.
In the long term, it is worth thinking about electricity from your own roof. For example, if you are thinking about installing a heat pump or switching to an electric car. This is why Martin Lorenz is also talking about the e-revolution. With this product world, SWG covers a lot of what is needed for the energy transition at home.

Energy knowledge from the comfort of your own home
The lecture series will once again take place online this year. If you would like to watch the lecture "Photovoltaic power from the sun" on 25 April at 5:30 pm, register by 23 April at energieberatung@stadtwerke-giessen.de, receive a participation link in good time before the event and can follow the presentation from the comfort of your own couch. Of course, the SWG experts will answer any questions arising from the presentation directly.
