Preparatory work for the construction of a large heat pump system will begin at the end of September. For this reason, Schlachthofstraße will probably have to be closed to traffic from 27 September until May 2025.

In the coming months, Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) will begin constructing a technical centre for three river water heat pumps on its site in Schlachthofstraße. They are a central component of an innovative combined heat and power plant that will go into operation in 2026. As the heat pumps use the water of the River Lahn as an energy source, an inlet and outlet structure on the banks of the river with the associated pipework is also required. The necessary preparatory work will start at the end of September and will make it necessary to close Schlachthofstrasse to all road users along the length of the property with house number 18 from 27 September 2024 until probably May 2025.

Important to know: Access to and from Henriette-Hezel-Straße from the north and August-Balzer-Weg from the south-west will still be possible. Both the new development area and the two restaurants on the Lahn will therefore remain easily accessible. For all those travelling on foot or by bike on the right-hand side of the Lahn, diversions will be set up and signposted. SWG apologises for any possible restrictions.
