The laying of a district heating connection in Karl-Glöckner-Straße will necessitate road closures in the area of Watzenborner Weg and Steinberger Weg from 22 July.
Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) is laying a district heating connection for Karl-Glöckner-Straße 2. In order to carry out the construction work as planned, road closures will be necessary in the Watzenborner Weg area from 22 July to probably 16 September 2022.
Diversion via Pistorstraße
Watzenborner Weg can be travelled on one side in the direction of Pohlheim/Pistorstraße with traffic lights for the duration of the construction work. Steinberger Weg, on the other hand, will be fully closed from the junction with Watzenborner Weg to Schiffenberger Tal. The diversion will be via Pistorstraße.
Schiffenberger Weg can be travelled in and out of the city as usual. Only turning into Steinberger Weg is not possible during this time. Karl-Glöckner-Straße itself is not affected by the construction work.
SWG bus routes not affected
The SWG bus routes are also not affected. However, the closures and diversions will affect the RMV regional bus routes 375 and 377. Further information on this can be obtained from the Gießen transport company (VGG).
Utilising synergy effects
In addition to laying the district heating connection, SWG is also replacing the water pipe in Watzenborner Weg during this time. "We are utilising the synergy effect to carry out upcoming renovation work on the water main pipe," explains project manager Martin Kreutz.
