On 7 December 2015, Eichgärtenallee between Philosophenstraße and Kantstraße is expected to be closed to traffic from 8 am to 4 pm. The reason for this: Several trees will be felled in this section that lack stability. Experts have examined the trees and come to the conclusion that they could topple over in a strong wind and injure passers-by or fall onto vehicles.

In September, a civil engineering company's excavator damaged the roots of the trees. "We replaced an old underground cable in Eichgärtenallee that was susceptible to damage. Unfortunately, this oversight occurred during the previous excavation work on our behalf," explains Ina Weller, company spokesperson for Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG). Once the felling work has been completed, new trees will be planted in Eichgärtenallee.
