In 2015, the fare change in the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund area will take place for the first time on New Year's Day. From 1 January, the new prices and fare regulations will also apply to Stadtwerke Gießen AG's scheduled services.
In 2014, the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV) decoupled the fare and timetable changes for the first time. While the new timetables have been in force since 14 December, the prices and fare regulations will not change until New Year's Day 2015.
Among other things, the so-called 65-plus monthly ticket will then be available for all connections in the RMV area. An attractive offer that benefits all passengers aged 65 and over. Regardless of the price level purchased, they can travel throughout the RMV area with a personal 65-plus monthly ticket at weekends, on public holidays and on 24 and 31 December at no extra charge. However, while the 65-plus monthly ticket can only be used in 2nd class, the 65-plus annual ticket includes surcharge-free use of 1st class.
The 65-plus monthly ticket for journeys in Giessen and Heuchelheim costs 36.60 euros and is issued exclusively as an eTicket. Proof of age is required when the ticket is first issued.
eTicket extended
Monthly and 9 o'clock monthly tickets valid from January 2015 will also be available as eTickets from the Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) mobility centre in future. The paper version of season tickets will continue to be issued at private ticket agencies.
The conversion of monthly and weekly tickets for school pupils is also planned. This is expected to take place in the course of next year. Until then, monthly and weekly tickets for children and young people will continue to consist of a customer card plus a paper token.
New prices from 1 January
From 1 January, a single journey for adults in Giessen will cost 2.15 euros instead of 2.10 euros, and a single ticket for children will cost 1.30 euros instead of 1.25 euros. Holders of the Giessen Pass will pay 1.10 euros instead of 1.05 euros in future. They will continue to receive a 50 per cent discount on weekly and monthly tickets. Monthly tickets for school pupils are available for 33.50 euros, while the CleverCard for the whole year costs 283.80 euros.
RMV introduced a standardised "city fare level 1" in Giessen and Heuchelheim as well as in six other Hessian municipalities with comparable timetables back in 2014. Since then, passengers have been paying the same amount for their tickets - for example in Giessen, Marburg and Wetzlar.
"In order to be able to offer a uniform fare, we will adjust the prices for monthly tickets to the uniform RMV price level on 1 January," explains Anne Müller-Kreutz, Head of Local Transport Services at SWG. A monthly ticket in fare zone 1501 will therefore cost 43 euros instead of 40.90 euros, the 9 o'clock monthly ticket 36.60 euros instead of 34.70 euros and the annual ticket with a single cash payment 421.40 euros instead of 400 euros.
