Sunshine and clouds are still alternating over Giessen's skies and the temperatures are also changeable. However, the weather service forecasts promise rising temperatures and more sunshine. That's why Thursday, 17 May 2007, marks the start of the open-air swimming season at the Ringallee swimming centre: Stadtwerke Giessen's open-air swimming pool will open its doors for the first time in 2007 at 9 a.m. sharp. Until September, the swimming pool will be open daily until 8 pm.
Final touches
The water has been in the pool for ten days. Swimmers can currently expect a refreshing 20 degrees. SWG's 5-strong team of gardeners has been working on the outdoor pool grounds to give the sunbathing lawns a final polish.
Winter break utilised
Stadtwerke used the winter break to give some of the outdoor pool facilities a new shine. The SWG employees gave all the showers in the outdoor area a new coat of paint. Also new in appearance are eight new trees that adorn the sunbathing lawns and offer visitors shady spots on hot days. Trees that had fallen over were removed. For all those who want to do more than just swim in the outdoor pool, SWG now also offers a basketball area in addition to the volleyball courts and the goal wall for footballers. A basketball hoop has found its place on the sunbathing lawn at the back of the grounds. The water slide in the 1.50 metre deep pool has been fitted with a new pump. Some of the paving around the pools has been renewed.
Admission prices
Admission prices have risen slightly, reported Uwe Volbrecht, deputy head of the pool department. A single ticket now costs 2.20 euros - that's 20 cents more than last year. The price for a 5-person ticket is 8.80 euros. Adults pay 61.60 euros for a season ticket, while children and those entitled to reduced admission tickets pay 30.80 euros.
Early swimmers
This year, Stadtwerke is once again offering its bathing guests early swimming. Anyone who would like to and who purchases an early swimmer ticket in addition to their season ticket can swim their laps in the outdoor pool from 7 am.
Tent camps in the summer holidays
During the summer holidays, the SWG swimming pool team will once again be organising camps for children aged 9 to 14. The programme promises plenty of variety. In addition to activities such as beach volleyball and football, SWG is offering an excursion and a night hike. There are three dates to choose from, the price is 85 euros including accommodation in a tent and three meals a day. Anyone interested can call 0641 708-1411 from 22 May for more information or to register. It is also possible to register via the Internet: www.stadtwerke-giessen.de
It will be decided in the next few days when the outdoor pools in Kleinlinden and Lützellinden will be open to visitors.
