This year, the indoor pool season at the Ringallee bathing centre will start on Monday 12 August - a week later than originally planned. The reason: extensive investigation and clean-up work is still ongoing following the fire in the outdoor sauna at the end of July. "Although the indoor pool was completely spared from the fire, the investigations into the cause of the fire and the damage are still ongoing. Only then can the clean-up work begin. That's why we have to wait until the start of the indoor pool season. After all, we want our guests to feel completely undisturbed and be able to move around freely. We therefore ask for your understanding," explains Uwe Volbrecht from the swimming pool operations department of Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG).
Those who don't want to swim their lengths in the open air despite the good weather still have the opportunity to do so in the Westbad up to and including 11 August. Uwe Volbrecht comments: "Normally, we would have taken a three-week break from 5 August for the annual basic cleaning and modernisation. Under the current circumstances, however, the pool will continue to operate for a week longer."
Outdoor sauna planned from autumn
SWG plans to offer a new outdoor sauna in the Ringallee bathing centre again this year. Until then, the area where the fire occurred will remain cordoned off and the construction work will run parallel to the bathing operations. "Guests will notice as little as possible of all this," assures Uwe Volbrecht.
