Clean drinking water is one of the most precious resources on earth. The United Nations reminds us of this every year on World Water Day, 22 March. On this special date in 2016, Stadtwerke Giessen is once again offering guided tours for individuals through the Queckborn waterworks and to the central zone tank in Annerod.
Registration deadline: 15 March
Every drop of drinking water travels a long way from its source to the households of the people of Giessen. Among other things, the number one foodstuff passes through the waterworks in Queckborn - an important stopover. On 22 March, interested parties will be given an insight into the history and technology of drinking water supply here, with a guided tour of the plant and the central zone tank in Annerod on the programme.
Michael Rösner, Head of Sales for Private and Commercial Customers at Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG), explains: "Anyone who turns on the tap at the sink, takes a shower or flushes the toilet in their own home rarely thinks about the origin of the water in this country. It flows reliably and is characterised by its high quality. We want to show interested parties how it gets to their homes, what's behind it and how technology has changed."
By bus to Queckborn
SWG has set up a free special bus service for participants in the guided tour on 22 March. Departure: 2 p.m. at the Behördenzentrum bus stop - directly opposite the Kinopolis cinema on the Ostanlage in Giessen. After the event, the special bus will take participants back there. Arrival: around 5.30 pm.
Stadtwerke Gießen will accept registrations until 15 March - by telephone on the service number 0800 2302100. Anyone interested should hurry. The number of places is limited.
