Reading and writing are among the most important skills that children acquire at a young age. This makes it all the more important to awaken an interest in texts at an early age. The ideal medium for this is a daily newspaper. It is full of pictures and articles of varying lengths and is constantly filled with new content from Monday to Saturday. This is exactly where the Giessener Anzeiger's "Zeitung in der Kita" media project comes in. From 22 January to 9 February, pre-school children were given the opportunity to get closer to the printed word together with their teachers. During the three weeks, daycare centres in the city of Giessen and the district of Giessen received newspapers every day, which they used for playful activities and voyages of discovery across the pages.
As part of this campaign, Stadtwerke Gießen also encouraged the creativity of the girls and boys with the "Where does Fabius live?" colouring competition. A total of 100 children from several facilities took part. Their task: to design their own T-shirt and answer the question of where the popular SWG mascot lives. The energy company provided the T-shirts and the colours to paint the garments. "We are thrilled with the great ideas that emerged. The decision was incredibly difficult for us," assures SWG Marketing Manager Ulli Boos.
Award ceremony in Londorf
It has now been decided: the most creative motif comes from the "Rabentreff children" from the Rabennest day-care centre in Londorf. On Monday 19 March, Ulli Boos and project supervisor Antje Kärchner visited the facility to deliver the good news and a voucher for the prize. The 25 boys and girls are looking forward to a morning of adventure with Fabius the dragon in the Pohlheim circus barn.
However, all the other children who took part in the colouring competition will not go away empty-handed. After all, they now have a personalised Fabius T-shirt and also received a small replica of the dragon.
