From Monday 21 August, preparations for the traffic trial will enter the final phase. The two inner lanes of the city centre ring road from Berliner Platz to Selterstor will then be fully closed. Both city buses and local traffic will have to use diversion routes for the duration of the construction work.
The city of Giessen is starting the fourth and final phase of preparations for the traffic trial on the Anlagenring. This will affect some bus routes, which will no longer be able to use the southern ring road between Berliner Platz and Selterstor for around four weeks from the start of operations.
The changes to the city bus routes in detail:
Lines 1 and 17 (from Berliner Platz to Waldweide/ Lützellinden or railway station)
The lines will run from the "Berliner Platz" stop via Neue Bäue to the "Marktplatz" stop and on to the "City Centre" stop in Bahnhofstraße. Line 1 will then continue to the "Liebigstraße" stop on Frankfurter Straße. Line 17 will run from the "City Center" stop directly to the railway station, skipping the "Liebigstraße" stop.
The "Johanneskirche" stop cannot be served by lines 1 and 17. Alternatively, the buses will serve the "Marktplatz" and "City Centre" stops. In addition, the "Lufthansastraße" stop on route 17 in the area of the former US depot will have to be cancelled due to time constraints.
Saturn night bus (from Berliner Platz in the direction of Kleinlinden)
In the direction of Kleinlinden, the Saturn night bus runs from the "Berliner Platz" stop via Marktplatz, Bahnhofstraße, Westanlage and then on to the "Liebigstraße" stop in Frankfurter Straße.
The "Johanneskirche" stop cannot be approached. Instead, the "Marktplatz" and "City Centre" stops will be served. Due to time constraints, the "Naturwissenschaften" and "Unterhof" stops on the rest of the route will be cancelled.
Venus night bus (from Berliner Platz to the railway station)
The Venus night bus route is also unable to call at the "Johanneskirche" stop. From Berliner Platz, the route continues via Marktplatz, Bahnhofstraße and Westanlage to the "Liebigstraße" stop in Frankfurter Straße. The "Marktplatz" and "City Centre" stops will be served as an alternative. Due to time constraints, the "Hessenhalle" and "Hardtallee" stops on the route will be cancelled.
The changes to the surrounding lines in detail:
Line 11 (from Wetzlar to Gießen Behördenzentrum)
Line 11 runs from the direction of Kleinlinden via Frankfurter Straße and Liebigstraße to Giessen railway station and back. The stops "Behördenzentrum", "Johanneskirche" and "Liebigstraße" are cancelled. Alternatively, the buses will stop at Giessen railway station, bus platform 6.
Lines GI-21, GI-22 and 379 (from Berliner Platz to the railway station)
The suburban lines 21, 22 and 379 will also have to take a different route during the construction work. The "Johanneskirche" stop cannot be served. From Berliner Platz, the route leads via Marktplatz and Bahnhofstraße to the "Bahnhof" stop. Alternatively, the "Marktplatz" and "City Centre" stops in Bahnhofstraße will be served.
Line 24 (from Wetzlar to Giessen railway station)
Between the stops "Schützenstraße" in Rodheimer Straße and "Liebigstraße" in Frankfurter Straße, buses in both directions will take a diversion via the Westanlage. The stops "Oswaldsgarten", "Marktplatz", "Stadttheater" and "Johanneskirche" will be cancelled.
As a replacement, the "Bahnhofstraße" and "Mühlstraße" stops after the "Liebigstraße" stop will be served in the direction of Wetzlar. In the direction of Giessen railway station, the buses will alternatively serve the stops "Mühlstraße" and "Selterstor" after the "Schützenstraße" stop.
Line GI-25 (from Reinhardshain to Gießen Johanneskirche)
The construction site timetable is valid for the entire duration of the changeover phase. There is therefore no change to the previous changeover phases. Line 25 runs from the "Steinstraße" stop via Nordanlage and Marktplatz back to the "Steinstraße" stop.
The stops "Nordanlage", "Oswaldsgarten", "Marktplatz", "Behördenzentrum" and "Landgericht" will be served. The stops "Mühlstraße", "Bahnhofstraße" and "Johanneskirche" will be cancelled.
Line GI-43 (from Giessen August-Hermann-Franke School to Weipoltshausen)
The buses run in the direction of Weipoltshausen town centre from the "Berliner Platz" stop via Marktplatz, Neustadt and Rodheimer Straße to the "Schützenstraße" stop. The "Marktplatz" and "Oswaldsgarten" stops will be served. However, the "Bahnhofstraße" and "Mühlstraße" stops will have to be cancelled.
Line 371 (from Grünberg to Giessen railway station)
The buses will run in the direction of Giessen railway station from the "Steinstraße" stop via Nordanlage and Westanlage to the railway station. The stops "Nordanlage" and "Mühlstraße" in the Westanlage will be served. The stops "Landgericht", "Behördenzentrum", "Johanneskirche" and "Liebigstraße" cannot be served. On journeys of the Lumdatal Express, the "Mühlstraße" stop will be served instead of "Behördenzentrum" in the direction of Gießen Bahnhof.
Lines 372, 375 and 377 (via Schiffenberger Weg to Giessen railway station)
During this time, lines 372, 375 and 377 will take the route from Schiffenberger Tal via Aulweg, Leihgesterner Weg, Röntgenstraße, Friedrichstraße, Frankfurter Straße, Liebigstraße and Bahnhofstraße to Giessen railway station. The stops "Sternmark", "Liebigschule", "Berliner Platz", "Johanneskirche" and "Liebigstraße" will be cancelled. The stops "Ulner Dreieck" and "Friedrichstraße" will be served as replacements.
The express journeys on route 372 from Laubach via Lich to Gießen Behördenzentrum are not affected by the change and will run on the regular route.
