On Sunday, 28 April 2019, Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) will start the season at the Ringallee outdoor pool. Once again, SWG has used the winter break to make some improvements. For example, there is now a second beach volleyball court. "Demand was high and there was plenty of space," says Uwe Volbrecht, head of the Giessen swimming pools, explaining the new playing surface. Nobody needs to bring a ball to hit and dig in the sand. "We lend out balls free of charge in return for a deposit," adds Uwe Volbrecht.
Of course, Stadtwerke Gießen has also thought of its younger bathers. After splashing around, children up to the age of 10 can let off steam on a modern climbing frame with four towers. A new double swing is also waiting to be tried out.
Quicker access to bathing fun
Because there are sometimes long queues at the ticket office, especially on warm and sunny weekends, SWG offers all those who have a season ticket an advantage: Thanks to fast-lane access, they can go straight through to the entrance control. The same applies to students. They receive a special admission ticket for the whole season at the ticket office - again against a deposit. Incidentally, all bathers benefit from this regulation. Because the more visitors who enter the outdoor pool via the fast lane, the shorter the waiting time at the ticket office.
Another innovation is for safety: there are now posts on both long sides of the sports pool, between which a barrier line can be stretched if necessary. "This is to prevent bathers from jumping into the pool from the side and endangering others doing their laps," explains Uwe Volbrecht. Speaking of swimming laps: This season, the team from the Ringallee outdoor pool will once again set up lanes for fast swimmers and snorkellers at certain times of the day.
The opening times remain the same. The pool officially opens at 8 a.m., but early swimmers can enter the pool an hour earlier. The pool closes at 8 pm. However, this should be seen as a guideline. When the weather is fine and temperatures are above 28 degrees, SWG extends the swimming time by one hour. During the summer holidays, the outdoor pool generally closes at 9 pm.
SWG is keeping admission prices stable. As a result, single admission is 3.30 euros, the 10-person ticket is 30 euros (concessions 20 euros), the season ticket for adults is 93 euros (concessions 62 euros) and the season ticket for families is 186 euros.
Attractive venue
On 31 August and 1 September 2019, the Hessian Swimming Youth will be a guest at the Ringallee outdoor pool. This year's SWIM-IN event will take place in Giessen on this weekend. It is being organised by the Giessen Swimming Club. "The pool is ideally suited for such an event," says a delighted Uwe Volbrecht.
