Pack your swimming trunks - because the outdoor pool season in Giessen starts on 1 May. The Ringallee outdoor pool is the first to open its doors, followed by the other two at the beginning of June.

Even if the temperatures are still rather subdued this year: Many Giessen residents are eagerly waiting to jump into the cool water - in the outdoor pool. They won't have to wait much longer. Because on 1 May, the time has come: the 2023 outdoor pool season starts. "As every year, the Ringallee outdoor pool will be the first to open, followed by the pools in Kleinlinden and Lützellinden at the beginning of June, depending on the weather," explains Uwe Volbrecht, Head of Giessen's swimming pools. As usual, the doors to the outdoor pools will be open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. this season, with admission stopping at 7:30 p.m. each day.

Swimming fun without restrictions

Uwe Volbrecht is particularly pleased that there are no more pandemic-related restrictions this summer. "Our bathers can behave as they did before 2020 - without social distancing or hygiene rules," he adds. Only the so-called roundabout will be retained by the Giessen pools. This means that bathers always swim anti-clockwise in the specially demarcated lanes. Uwe Volbrecht comments: "This procedure has simply worked really well."

Stable prices

Despite rising energy costs, the Giessen pools are keeping admission prices stable this season - for single tickets as well as season tickets and multiple tickets. This means that single tickets will continue to cost 3.70 euros, a 10-person ticket 33 euros (concessions 22 euros), a season ticket for adults 107.30 euros and 214.60 euros for families. Children under the age of six can continue to splash around and swim for free. The special agreement with the Giessen universities also remains in place. As in the previous year, students will receive a specially coded card for a deposit of five euros, which they can use to pass directly through the turnstile at the cash desks. There are also plans to introduce a fast lane function during the season.

"Play your game" - City Day in June

One thing is already certain: this year's "Spiel' Dein Spiel" - City Day will once again attract visitors to the Ringallee outdoor pool. On 18 June from 11:00 to 18:00, numerous clubs will be presenting their sports and inviting people to try them out and take part. The team from Clown Ichmael's circus barn will also be there again and will be looking after the youngest visitors in particular.
