In future, the girls and boys of the Harbach 1927 sports club will be able to improve their balance on a new training device. Stadtwerke Gießen supported the club with a slackboard as part of the "Play your game" sponsorship concept.

Dexterity, coordination and balance - they all play a major role in gymnastics. Even the youngest children train these basic skills with numerous exercises. Modern equipment such as a slackline is being used more and more frequently. The robust and several centimetre wide band can be stretched between trees, for example, and then balanced on it. Special wooden frames are available for use indoors.

The Harbach sports club also wanted to use a slackboard, i.e. a slackline including a corresponding frame, for training young athletes. Not a cheap purchase. This is precisely why the club approached Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) with its request and applied as part of the "Play your game" campaign - with success. Stephanie Orlik, Marketing Services & Sponsoring at SWG, presented the slackboard to Sandra Jüptner from SV Harbach during the children's gymnastics session on Wednesday 20 September in the Harbach community centre.

The exercise instructor and committee member revealed: "We are delighted with the new piece of sports equipment, which will benefit our young gymnasts in particular. The ten girls and boys aged between seven and eleven were thrilled when they heard about the slackboard. It's great that Stadtwerke Giessen is supporting us." During the training session on Wednesday, the little ones showed how much they enjoy training their body awareness on the slackline. Stephanie Orlik explained: "With our new sponsorship concept, we are deliberately focussing on children's and youth sports. It is particularly important to us to promote the fun of exercise. This afternoon you can see what's behind this idea."

Like SV Harbach, SWG also wants to support other clubs, schools and private initiatives from Giessen and the region in the future. Those responsible can apply to SWG for sponsorship at any time - regardless of the type of sport. Simply complete the online form at www.swg-spieldeinspiel.de, add a video if necessary and you're done. SWG will review each application and let you know at short notice whether they will sponsor the project and, if so, in what form.
