On 1 October 2015, the redesigned Aquabistro in the Ringallee bathing centre opened its doors to guests for the first time. Among other things, Stadtwerke Gießen has opted for a completely new catering concept.

The refurbishment is complete: After a seven-month renovation phase, the new Aquabistro in the Ringallee bathing centre opened on 1 October 2015. In order to better meet the needs of visitors, Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) no longer relies on the classic restaurant concept, but has transformed the rooms on the first floor of the bathing centre into a bright, modern bistro.
"Thanks to the complete renovation of the dining area and the kitchen, we can now offer visitors to the Ringallee bathing centre more gastronomically than before," promised Matthias Funk, Technical Director of Stadtwerke Gießen, at the official opening of the Aquabistro.

Aquabistro with different areas
An important part of the new concept: The Aquabistro is divided into several areas. On the open gallery in the indoor swimming pool, guests can get snacks and drinks directly in their swimming costume. Inside the Aquabistro, visitors can enjoy their meals in their bathrobes. Large glass panes provide a clear view of what is happening in the pool. There is also a separate area for non-swimmers. Several tables also invite you to linger on the spacious terrace with access to the outdoor pool. A room in the bistro can also be booked for events - such as lectures and celebrations - for up to 60 people.

Renowned partner
In order to guarantee the high quality of the food on offer, SWG has decided to work with the renowned catering company Aramark. In addition to freshly prepared classics such as chips, currywurst and Wiener-style schnitzel, the Aquabistro menu naturally also offers a selection of numerous light dishes, vegetarian cuisine and seasonal delicacies. There is also a wide range of different natural juices, soft drinks, coffee specialities and alcoholic beverages, some of which are mixed in-house.
"In our search for a new concept, we were guided entirely by the wishes of our guests, which we were repeatedly asked to fulfil. The remodelling itself was only possible after the previous tenant left," explains Uwe Volbrecht from the SWG pool management.

Simple payment system
A simple system in the new Aquabistro makes carrying cash unnecessary: Anyone visiting the Ringallee bathing centre receives a transponder to which the consumption costs incurred are booked. This means that every guest can easily pay their bill at the cash desk or at the post-payment machine when they leave the pool.
SWG recommends keeping the receipt issued at the pool cash desk in a safe place so that the actual invoice amount can be determined if the transponder is lost. Otherwise a lump sum of 20 euros will be charged.

The Aquabistro is open from Monday to Friday from 11 am to 10 pm, Saturday from 11 am to 8 pm and Sunday from 11 am to 6 pm - during the outdoor pool season until 1 pm.
Information on the opening times and prices of the SWG pools is also available from the SWG service telephone on 0641 708-1411 and on the Stadtwerke Gießen website at www.stadtwerke-giessen.de/baeder.
