From 1 January 2017, new fares will apply in the Rhine-Main Transport Association area. Among other things, this will change the prices for weekly and monthly tickets on Giessen city bus services. However, the prices for single journeys and day tickets will remain the same.
Buy a day ticket and use public transport for up to three days - this is what passengers travelling in the Rhine-Main Transport Association (RMV) area will benefit from at Christmas. All day tickets for adults and children as well as group day tickets purchased on 24 or 25 December are valid up to and including 26 December.
New fares at the turn of the year
The new fares will apply in the Rhine-Main Transport Association (RMV) area from 1 January 2017. Prices have been increased by an average of just 1.46 per cent. When purchasing a single journey or day ticket on public transport in the city of Giessen and the municipality of Heuchelheim, the prices remain the same as in 2016 - for both adults and children. This also applies to the group day ticket, which continues to cost €7.80. A single journey for adults costs 2.15 euros and 1.30 euros for children up to and including the age of 14. The price for day tickets is 4.20 euros and 2.55 euros respectively.
The prices for weekly, monthly and annual tickets for bus transport in the city of Giessen and the municipality of Heuchelheim will increase slightly: from 2017, a monthly ticket for adults will cost 45 euros instead of the previous 44 euros, and a monthly Giessen Pass ticket will cost 19.90 euros instead of 19.40 euros. In future, school pupils and trainees will have to pay 35.10 euros for a monthly ticket. The 9 o'clock cards and 65-plus cards have also been adjusted accordingly.

From January 2017, a certificate from the school or training centre is only required from the age of 18 to purchase tickets for the training tariff. Up to and including 17 years of age, proof of age is sufficient.
