From 1 January, new fares will apply in the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund area. Among other things, this will change the prices for weekly and monthly city bus tickets.
Buy a day ticket and use public transport for up to three days - passengers in the Rhine-Main Transport Association (RMV) area will benefit from this offer at Christmas. Day tickets for adults and children as well as group day tickets purchased on 24 or 25 December are valid up to and including 26 December.
New fares at the turn of the year
From 1 January, new fares will apply in the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund area. When purchasing a single journey or day ticket on local public transport in the city of Giessen and the municipality of Heuchelheim, the prices will remain the same as in 2015 - for both adults and children. A single journey for adults will continue to cost 2.15 euros and 1.30 euros for children up to and including the age of 14. The price for day tickets is 4.20 euros and 2.55 euros respectively. The prices for the "CleverCard kreisweit" will also remain stable.
The prices of season tickets for bus transport in the city of Giessen and the municipality of Heuchelheim will increase slightly: from 2016, a monthly ticket for adults will cost 44 euros instead of the previous 43 euros, and a weekly ticket will cost 12.90 euros instead of 12.60 euros. In future, school pupils and trainees will have to pay 34.30 euros for a monthly ticket and 10.10 euros for a weekly ticket - an increase of 80 and 30 cents respectively. Holders of a Giessen Pass can be pleased. For them, the monthly ticket for adults will cost 19.40 euros instead of 21.50 euros. The weekly ticket will then be available for 5.70 euros, compared to 6.30 euros previously.
RMV season tickets via eTicket
At the turn of the year, users of local public transport should note that they will only be able to buy RMV weekly and RMV monthly tickets at Deutsche Bahn ticket machines as eTickets. To do this, they need a chip card, which they can obtain free of charge from all RMV sales outlets - including the customer centre of Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG). The respective eTickets can be booked onto the electronic card - at the ticket machine or, for example, at the SWG customer centre.
Anne Müller-Kreutz, Head of Local Transport Services at SWG, explains: "Anyone who regularly buys their weekly or monthly ticket from us at the mobility centre has been receiving it exclusively as an eTicket for some time now. What's new is that the paper form for season tickets is now also no longer required at the ticket machines and everyone now needs a chip card. Where passengers load their weekly or monthly ticket onto the chip card - at the machine or at our customer centre - is up to them."
Anyone wishing to find out more about the new tariffs can call the SWG service number 0641 708-1400, visit www.stadtwerke-giessen.de/verkehr or www.rmv.de or visit the mobility centre in the SWG customer centre on Marktplatz. Opening hours: Monday to Friday from 9 am to 6 pm and Saturday from 9 am to 2 pm. The customer centre will be closed on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve and on 2 January 2016.
