New drinking water pipeline in Allendorf

SWG is building a new drinking water main in Kahlweg in the Allendorf district.

When it comes to the supply of drinking water in Giessen, Mittelhessische Wasserbetriebe and Stadtwerke Giessen (SWG) work hand in hand. In this tried and tested co-operation, SWG is responsible for the necessary infrastructure. In other words, SWG is responsible for the maintenance and expansion of the drinking water network. This is exactly what will soon be happening in the Allendorf district. Here, SWG is having a new main drinking water pipeline laid in Kahlweg. However, the start of the construction work has been delayed. It will begin on 18 August 2025 - instead of in May as originally announced. Everything should be finished by the end of September.

Full closure necessary

Because the drinking water pipes in Kahlweg run under both the pavement and the carriageway, the road has to be completely closed to traffic in sections. This means that the car parks in the affected areas are also unavailable and the pavements can only be used to a limited extent. Important to know: Residents can drive right up to the construction site. A diversion has been signposted for through traffic. "We are aware that construction work of this kind is associated with inconvenience for local residents. That is why we are doing everything we can to minimise noise and other disruptions and complete the construction work within the planned time frame," explains Ulli Boos, company spokesperson for SWG.
