In the end, they were only about 10 cm short: the dragon boat team "Die Rohrleger" from Stadtwerke Gießen AG (SWG) narrowly missed out on overall victory in the dragon boat race at the Marburg City Festival. In the final race late on Sunday afternoon, the Rohrleger were only beaten by the team "Die Turboenten" from Giessen.
The SWG paddlers can console themselves with an excellent second place and the day's victory on the Sunday of the city festival. Eight teams each competed on Saturday and Sunday to determine the day's winner in the racing class (where athletic and trained paddling teams compete). The two winners of the day - the canoeists and the turbo ducks - then competed in the final race on Sunday.
The next chance for the Rohrleger to achieve a good placing is on 16 August at the 5th Giessen Dragon Boat Cup organised by RC Hassia as part of the Giessen City Festival.
