Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) and MTV 1846 Gießen will be working closely together in future. Representatives of SWG and MTV signed the corresponding agreement on 2 February 2016.

Maintaining a comprehensive sports programme for all age groups and performance levels is almost inconceivable for a sports club today without external support. As a company with regional roots, Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) is well aware of this situation and assumes responsibility here. Consequently, SWG has always been committed to sport in the region. "We are particularly pleased that Giessen's largest sports club is now also one of our partners," explains Ina Weller, company spokesperson for SWG, at the signing of the contract and adds: "We are now bringing together what belongs together."

The new partners do indeed have a number of things in common: Both MTV and Stadtwerke Giessen can look back on well over a hundred years of tradition in the city. Both have left their mark - for example the Giessen 46ers, which emerged from the MTV and for which SWG is a premium sponsor. And both are making a difference, endeavouring to move the region forward step by step and keep it worth living in. "We are convinced that we have found a partner in Stadtwerke Gießen that will provide us with long-term support in our endeavour to maintain and expand a wide range of activities for people from all walks of life and all age groups," says Mehmet Tanriverdi, First Chairman of the club, which has around 2,300 members.

MTV 1846 Gießen offers a home to recreational, health and competitive athletes alike. There are no fewer than 23 different sports to choose from - from aikido to classics such as basketball, athletics and gymnastics, or exotic sports such as lawn sports and ultimate frisbee to yoga. The MTV's American football team, the Golden Dragons, caused a real sensation. After an outstanding season and two thrilling relegation matches, they were rewarded with promotion to the German Football League 2, Germany's second-highest division. "Such success is of course wonderful. Now we have to join forces to keep the team in the league and offer the public exciting, attractive games. The support of SWG will help us a lot in this endeavour," emphasises Mario Bröder, Managing Director of MTV.

The partnership with MTV 1846 Gießen once again emphasises that SWG takes its slogan "With energy. For the region." seriously and puts it into practice. In this way, the company is promoting well-positioned youth work in many types of sport, a wide range of popular sports and highly publicised competitive sport in equal measure - and thus three important factors for the attractiveness of the entire region. Stephanie Orlik, responsible for sponsorship at SWG, puts it like this: "This combination and such a broad spectrum is probably unrivalled in the region. That's why we are convinced that we have found exactly the right partner for a good and sustainable collaboration in MTV Giessen."
