More district heating for Wieseck
SWG is laying district heating pipes in Rabenauer Strasse.
More and more people want to heat their homes and hot water with district heating. Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) is responding to this wish and will be laying the corresponding pipes in Rabenauer Strasse in the Wieseck district from 1 April. As part of this project, SWG is also modernising the electricity, natural gas and drinking water pipes. At the same time, the city is having the main sewer and the sewer house connections renovated and the carriageway and pavements renewed.
The entire construction project extends from Albert-Osswald-Platz to Badenburger Hohl. SWG will begin the first construction phase on 1 April 2026. It extends from house number 24 to Alten-Busecker Straße. During this time, Rabenauer Straße will be fully closed to traffic and the pavement will also be unusable in sections. The same applies to car parks in the closed area. Residents will still be able to access their properties with their vehicles. However, construction machinery may temporarily block the access road. If everything goes according to plan, the construction work should be completed in the 50th calendar week of 2026.
Bus diversion for route 5
As Rabenauer Straße will be fully closed for the construction work, buses will also have to take a diversion for the duration of the construction site. Specifically, this affects route 5, which will take an alternative route in both directions. In the direction of Wieseck, the buses will continue from the "Röderring" stop on Wiesecker Weg via Gießener Straße and Alten-Busecker Straße to the "Friedhof" stop. The bus stops "Grabenstraße", "Turnstraße" and "Albert-Osswald-Platz" will be cancelled. Instead, MIT.BUS will set up the replacement stops "Grabenstraße" and "Alte Schulstraße" in Gießener Straße.
From the "Friedhof" stop, buses travelling in the direction of Giessen railway station will travel via Alten-Busecker-Straße, Giessener Straße and Alte Schulstraße to the replacement stop "Albert-Osswald-Platz" in Alte Schulstraße. The service will then continue on its regular route. The "Albert-Osswald-Platz" stop in Rabenauer Straße will be cancelled.
