From the start of service on 4 May, numerous city buses will be taking diversions. The reason for this is extensive renovation work on supply lines in the Westanlage, Südanlage and Frankfurter Straße areas.
The reliable supply of energy is a top priority for Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG). In order to guarantee this, the necessary lines are due for extensive renovation. It affects the area where Frankfurter Straße joins Westanlage and Südanlage. This construction work is expected to last until December and will have a direct impact on almost all city bus routes.
Because Frankfurter Straße is closed from the city centre to Alicenstraße, the following bus routes will have to be rerouted:
Line 1
In the direction of Kleinlinden/Allendorf/Lützellinden, the route after the Johanneskirche stop runs via Südanlage, Bleichstraße, Ludwigstraße, Röntgenstraße and Friedrichstraße to the Friedrichstraße stop. The Röntgenstraße stop in Röntgenstraße will be served as an alternative. The Liebigstraße stop in Frankfurter Straße will be cancelled. There is no diversion in the direction of Sophie-Scholl-Schule/Rödgen.
Line 2
In the direction of the railway station, buses will run from the Oswaldsgarten stop and back via Westanlage and Bahnhofstraße. The Selterstor, Liebigstraße and Bahnhofstraße stops will be cancelled.
Lines 5 and 15
In the direction of Greizer Straße/Burgenring, both lines will run from the Bahnhof stop via Bahnhofstraße and Westanlage to the Oswaldsgarten stop and on to Marktplatz. The Katharinengasse stop will be cancelled. Everything remains as usual in the direction of the railway station.
Line 17
This line is not in operation due to the current Saturday timetable. When it resumes service, it will take the diversion in the direction of the railway station from the Johanneskirche stop via Südanlage, Westanlage, Reichensand and Bahnhofstraße to the Bahnhof stop. The Liebigstraße stop will be cancelled. The Katharinengasse stop in Reichensand will be served. In the opposite direction, buses will continue via Bahnhofstraße, Westanlage and Südanlage to the Johanneskirche stop.
Route 24
In both directions, the route runs via Westanlage and Bahnhofstraße. The Mühlstraße stop will be served, but the Oswaldsgarten, Marktplatz, Stadttheater, Johanneskirche and Liebigstraße stops will be cancelled.
Lines 3, 9, 10, 13, 12, 800, 801, 802 are not affected by the construction work and will follow the regular route.
In the direction of the railway station, the Liebigstraße stop will be closed for the duration of the construction work and will therefore not be served.
The SATURN and VENUS night buses are still out of service due to the coronavirus. SWG will of course provide information about alternative routes if the night buses are put back into service during the construction period.
