On 13 August, Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) will begin a major construction site in the Westanlage. The work is necessary because natural gas and water pipes need to be renovated. As part of the important renovation work, SWG is also laying district heating pipes in the Westanlage 13 property. "This will not only save money, but will also spare drivers' nerves," explains Ina Weller, company spokesperson for SWG. The fact is that those responsible at SWG estimate a total construction time of around six months. If the district heating pipe were to be laid separately, the road would have to be torn up again, which would result in further traffic obstructions.
Unfortunately, this is not possible without it. In principle, the Westanlage will always be passable. However, because the pipes are located under the carriageway, there is no other option than to close the right-hand lane of the two lanes leading towards Berliner Platz. The left-hand lane will be moved to the opposite carriageway. This will be done in two stages, each of which will take around three months.
Initially, the restriction will apply to the area from the Westanlage 5 property to the access road to the Dern-Passage multi-storey car park, which will remain open to traffic throughout the construction period. The second section will then continue from there to Bahnhofstrasse. "We are aware that we are once again asking drivers to be patient and apologise for any inconvenience caused. But there is no way around the extensive renovation work," Ina Weller continues.
