At the end of September, the Eintracht Steinbach choral society celebrated its 150th anniversary. Stadtwerke Gießen supported the association's male choir with a donation as part of its 75 good deeds.
The men's choir of Gesangverein Eintracht Steinbach regularly performs in front of an audience or strict adjudicators. In order to present a uniform image, the singers slip into black shirts. The men's choir's logo is now emblazoned on them. Thanks to a donation from Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG), the singers were able to have their logo embroidered onto the shirts. This donation is one of a total of 75 good deeds that the municipal utilities are carrying out in their anniversary year.
SWG sponsor Bodo Schmitt, himself an active singer for 20 years, recently presented the donation cheque to Jörg Haas, 1st Chairman of the Eintracht Steinbach choral society.
Socially committed
"I know from my own experience how much fun singing is - for us singers ourselves, but also for the audience. There is a lot of passion and commitment involved," says Bodo Schmitt, explaining his proposal for this good deed. In fact, the male choir not only takes part in performance singing, choir competitions and concerts. The socially committed singers also provide musical accompaniment for church services time and again. "And anyone who does so much good can also be rewarded with something good," explained Bodo Schmitt when handing over the cheque. "It's nice to know that our commitment is also recognised and honoured by others," said Jörg Haas. "That's why we are particularly pleased about the donation from Stadtwerke Gießen."
The 54 singers have already successfully completed their first performance with the freshly embroidered club shirts: the celebrations to mark the 150th anniversary of Eintracht Steinbach kicked off on 28 September. As part of its anniversary celebrations, the choral society organised the outstanding "Musica Sacra" choir competition in the Steinbach church.
Anyone who would like to listen to the men of Eintracht Steinbach live should keep 15 December 2013 free. This is when a musical Advent service will take place in the Protestant church in Steinbach.
