Line 18 runs less frequently

Due to low passenger numbers, the number of services on bus route 18 is being reduced.

As the local transport provider for Giessen, it is MIT.BUS’s responsibility to continuously tailor its service to demand whilst ensuring cost-effectiveness. To fulfil this remit, the company fitted its buses with automatic passenger counting systems many years ago. An analysis of the data collected has now shown that bus route 18 is only operating at limited capacity.

The reason for this lies in the significant improvement to bus services in the Philosophikum area from January 2026, following the introduction of route 12 and the reorganisation of routes 801 and 802. Together with route 10, two additional services per hour have been serving the campus ever since. Passenger counts throughout the year have shown that this service is sufficient. Consequently, the decision was taken to limit bus route 18 – which is no longer included in the local transport plan – to the three well-utilised morning services from the station at 7.53 am, 8.53 am and 9.53 am, along with their return journeys.

Further information is available by telephone on 0641 708-1400, online at www.mitbus.de/verkehrshinweise or at the RMV Mobility Centre in Gießen, located in the SWG Customer Centre on Marktplatz (opening hours: Monday to Friday, 9 am to 6 pm). In addition, MIT.BUS can of course also be contacted by email: mobizentrale@mitbus.de.
The timetable changes have been incorporated into the RMV timetable enquiries service.
