On Monday, 22 February, the comprehensive renovation of Licher Straße will begin with a closure from Fasanenweg towards the city centre. City bus route 2 and VGO route 220 in the direction of the railway station will then run on an alternative route. This will lead via Fasanenweg, Anneröder Weg and Heinrich-Fourier-Straße back to Licher Straße. Replacement stops will be set up in Anneröder Weg at the "Anger" junction and in Heinrich-Fourier-Straße opposite the entrance to the Penny supermarket. The Fasanenweg and Graudenzer Straße stops in Licher Straße will be cancelled. "Passengers who want to change from line 2 at the Graudenzer Straße stop to the scheduled taxi to the Automeile are best advised to use the replacement stop in Heinrich-Fourier-Straße," recommends Anne Müller-Kreutz, Head of Local Transport Services at Stadtwerke Gießen. The Saturn night bus will also be travelling from the Eichendorffring stop via Anneröder Weg and Heinrich-Fourier-Straße back to Licher Straße due to the construction work.
Background to the construction work
Since the beginning of February 2010, the city of Giessen has been gradually renewing the carriageway surface of Licher Strasse. The start of construction had been delayed several times due to the severe frost periods. As part of this construction work, Stadtwerke Giessen is also laying a number of new supply lines for electricity, gas, water and district heating. In addition, sewer renovation work will be carried out as part of the complete refurbishment, and footpaths and cycle paths, bus stops and parking facilities will be reorganised. All work should be completed by the end of 2011.
