Proud and full of anticipation for their prizes, the three winners of this year's holiday competition came to the Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) customer centre on the market square on Friday, 21 September. They had visited the SWG waterworks in Queckborn on one of the 17 dates between 2 and 26 July and knew the answer to the competition question. A total of 144 children submitted an answer postcard to the question of how much water we use every day for cooking and drinking. "We are delighted with the large number of entries. Almost half of all holiday game participants sent back a card," said Michael Rösner from Stadtwerke Gießen at the prize-giving ceremony.
During the summer holidays in Queckborn, 368 girls and boys aged between six and twelve from 15 Central Hessian communities learnt more about drinking water, environmental protection and the water cycle. For Michael Rösner, one of the tasks of a regional supplier is to inform even the youngest children: "We explain to the children how the number one foodstuff reaches their homes and the effort involved. The three winners were particularly attentive and had the necessary luck." At the prize-giving ceremony, the children received a waterproof camera, an MP3 player and a book voucher.
