Last Tuesday, the main winner of the "extra chance", who had supported the Tour of Hope by buying raffle tickets, received her prize - free "Giessen green electricity".
Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) has been sponsoring the Tour of Hope - a cycle tour that raises money for children with cancer - for 20 years. The impressive record since 1983, when the tour began: organisers and participants, including amateur cyclists and celebrities from sport and broadcasting, have donated 32 million euros to the donation pot. In 2014 alone, donations totalling more than 1.7 million euros were collected. To support the charity campaign, SWG launched the "Extra Chance" competition, among other things. All proceeds go to the charity tour. Last year, around 7,000 people bought one of the "Zusatzchance" tickets at the SWG customer centre on Marktplatz or at events where SWG was represented. They tried their luck and helped to fill the donation pot in this way.
Gerhard Becker, organiser of the charity tour, and Volker Klein, sports director, thanked all participants and SWG for their commitment on 27 January: "We are delighted with everyone who takes part in the Tour of Hope, as well as those who support us by buying raffle tickets. Over the past few years, we have been able to support cancer research and help many people affected. Every single ticket has contributed to this."
SWG company spokeswoman Ina Weller, Thomas Wagner, Head of Sales Industrial and Business Customers, and Stephanie Orlik, Marketing Services & Sponsoring, joined the tour organisers in presenting the prize to the main winner of the "extra chance" raffle: Ulrike Hohmann from Heuchelheim received a voucher for 5,000 kilowatt hours of "Giessen green electricity".
Ina Weller congratulated her and explained: "Every participant is a winner because they have helped the good cause." Stephanie Orlik also pointed out that the raffle will go into a new round in 2015 and hopes that many people will once again support the fight against cancer. "Anyone from Giessen and the surrounding area can take part and try their luck. The raffle tickets will soon be available again at our customer centre," added Thomas Wagner.
