By buying their raffle tickets, they supported the Tour of Hope. Last Monday, the three lucky winners of the "extra chance" received their prizes - free "Giessen green electricity".
The organisers and participants of the Tour of Hope have been collecting donations for children with cancer since 1983. The proud result: a total of around 30 million euros has been raised since the first tour. Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) has also supported the fundraising tour for many years, in which hundreds of amateur cyclists and celebrities from sport and broadcasting pedal every summer. Among other things, SWG has launched the "Extra Chance" competition - a raffle in favour of the Tour of Hope. All proceeds go to the charity tour. Last year, around 5,000 people bought one of the raffle tickets at SWG's 75th anniversary events and at the customer centre on the market square. They tried their luck and helped to fill the donation pot.
Gerhard Becker, organiser of the charity tour, and Volker Klein, sports director, thanked all participants and SWG for their commitment on 3 February. "By buying raffle tickets, people are supporting our mission - the fight against cancer. Thanks to the enormous amount donated over the past three decades, we have been able to help many sufferers and support cancer research," emphasised Gerhard Becker. Volker Klein also emphasised that every euro counts.
Together with Stadtwerke board member Reinhard Paul and SWG company spokesperson Ina Weller, the tour organisers then presented the prizes to the three winners of the "extra chance" raffle. Nicole Rohmer from Wettenberg received a voucher for 5000 kilowatt hours (kWh) of "Giessen green electricity". Rudolf Lenz from Giessen and Roswitha Bepler from Heuchelheim were delighted to receive 3500 and 2000 kWh of "Giessen green electricity" respectively.
Reinhard Paul congratulated the three winners and explained: "Last year, thousands of people took part in the campaign for a good cause. So every one of them is a winner." Ina Weller also pointed out that the raffle was going into a new round in 2014. "We encourage everyone from Giessen and the surrounding area to try their luck. You will soon be able to buy raffle tickets again at our customer centre."
