The young wrestlers from Kampfsportfreunde Gießen e.V. will be training on new mats in future. They received them as part of the "Play your game" campaign. With this sponsorship concept, Stadtwerke Gießen is specifically promoting youth sport in the region.

The members of Kampfsportfreunde Gießen e.V. wanted new wrestling mats - and got them. Ina Weller, company spokeswoman for Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG), presented the mats on Wednesday, 20 December as part of "Spiel' dein Spiel". With this special sponsorship concept, the company is supporting youth sport in Giessen and the surrounding area.

After two football teams and a handball team, it was now the turn of the wrestlers from Giessen. The aim of this sport is to place the opponent on both shoulders using various throwing, gripping and holding techniques. Ground contact is therefore part of the game. All the more important: the right surface.
"We are very pleased that the kids will be able to train properly again in future and even on very good mats that are certified by the wrestling association," said Frank Pleschinger, coach of the young wrestlers at Kampfsportfreunde Gießen e.V., KSF Gießen for short, at the handover of the mats on 20 December. "You can wrestle well on a good surface that offers optimum support. The mats also offer the best protection against injuries."

There are currently 13 children aged between five and 13 training at the club. Three times a week, they learn the tricks of the trade in various exercises in the sports hall of the Friedrich-Ebert-Schule in Gießen-Wieseck. Frank Pleschinger teaches the youngsters all the relevant techniques. The programme also includes exercises to improve strength and endurance. The trainer works for SWG's metering services and used to be an active wrestler himself. He therefore knows exactly what is important in this sport. Together with Nenad Trifunovic, First Chairman of KSF Giessen, he applied for support through the sponsorship concept.

"We are very happy to help KSF Giessen and are delighted that the suggestion came from one of our employees," emphasised SWG company spokesperson Ina Weller, adding: "We are impressed by the wide range of voluntary work our employees do and would like to support this. In future, SWG would therefore like to support at least one project a year that is proposed by a project sponsor within the company. We are kicking things off this year by sponsoring the KSF Gießen as part of 'Spiel dein Spiel'."

With 'Spiel' dein Spiel', SWG honours the valuable work of clubs in children's and youth sport. After SV Harbach, JSG Linden and VfR Butzbach, KSF Gießen is the fourth club that SWG is supporting with its sponsorship concept to promote youth sport.
Clubs, schools and private initiatives can apply for sponsorship as part of the "Spiel' dein Spiel" programme - and can do so easily online using the form at www.swg-spieldeinspiel.de. SWG will review all applications received and inform you shortly whether and in what form they will support the project.
