Dubious callers in the supply area of Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) are using a new scam to try to obtain the account details of local residents. SWG employees have received a corresponding tip-off. "The callers pretend to be employees of Stadtwerke Gießen. They then ask for the account number - under the pretence that an alleged credit balance is to be transferred," says Ulli Boos, Head of Marketing at SWG, explaining the fraudsters' approach. Particularly perfidious: If the callers do not receive the account number after the first request, they threaten the person called with a reminder. "SWG employees never ask for sensitive data such as account numbers over the phone. Residents in the supply area should therefore not comply with such requests under any circumstances. Our advice: Resolutely reject such callers and report the attempted fraud to our employees," continues Ulli Boos.

SWG can help on the service number 0800 23 02 100 (free of charge from the German landline network and all German mobile networks) and at the SWG customer centre on Marktplatz as well as by email at info@stadtwerke-giessen.de.
