Every year, Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) collects donations for the Tour of Hope with its "Extra Chance" raffle. On Monday 29 January, SWG and the tour organisers presented the prizes to the three winners.
On 8 August, the prologue of the 34th Tour of Hope will start on the premises of Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG). The company has been supporting the charity tour for more than 20 years now. An essential part of its commitment has long been the "extra chance" raffle. For a large part of the year, SWG sells the raffle tickets at the customer centre on the market square and at the company's stand during various events such as the town festival. All proceeds - around 5,000 euros in 2017 - go to the Tour of Hope. The three winners also made a contribution by purchasing raffle tickets. On Monday, 29 January, Gerhard Becker, Head of Organisation of the charity tour, and Sports Director Karsten Koch presented the prizes together with Thomas Wagner, Head of Sales Industrial and Business Customers at SWG, and Stephanie Orlik, Marketing Services & Sponsoring at SWG. "Here in Giessen and the surrounding area, we support good causes in many different ways - from charitable organisations to volunteer work by people. The Tour of Hope is particularly close to our hearts," explained Thomas Wagner.
Help in the fight against cancer
Gerhard Becker and Karsten Koch emphasised that every donation and every pedal stroke during the charity tour is an important contribution to the fight against cancer. They thanked everyone who supported the Tour of Hope in 2017. "Every year, thousands of people take the opportunity to support a great cause with a small amount of money," explained Stephanie Orlik and congratulated the winners.
Anneliese Meusel from Heuchelheim received a voucher for 5000 kilowatt hours (kWh) of "Gießener Grünstrom", Heike Eifler from Gießen a voucher for 3500 kWh of "Gießener Grünstrom" and Sascha Bücher from Gießen a voucher for 2000 kWh of "Gießener Grünstrom".
Thomas Wagner had some good news after handing over the prizes: "Our 'extra chance' raffle is going into a new round in 2018. We will be selling raffle tickets again at all events with an SWG stand and from the beginning of March to the end of September at the customer centre on the market square. "
