Stadtwerke Gießen has been supporting the Tour of Hope for over twenty years - among other things by selling raffle tickets with an "extra chance". On Thursday, 31 January, the three winners received their prizes at the SWG customer centre on the market square.
Cycling to collect donations for children with cancer - the idea behind the Tour of Hope has been working for more than two decades. In its 25th year as a sponsor: Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG). As such, SWG sells raffle tickets in the customer centre on the market square and at various events in which it participates with its stand. The special thing about the raffle tickets that can be purchased from SWG: They go into two pots and offer an "extra chance" - the opportunity to win 5000, 3500 or 2000 kilowatt hours of Giessen green electricity.
Svitlana Koch from Giessen, Sigrid Hölzing from Staufenberg and Kevin Mertens from Grünberg also bought tickets from SWG. And they were really lucky: although they didn't win the main prize, they can look forward to 5000, 3500 and 2000 kilowatt hours of Giessen green electricity from SWG respectively. "With our 'extra chance', we simply want to make the raffle tickets a little more attractive," explained Ina Weller, company spokesperson for SWG, at the prize-giving ceremony. Obviously with success: in 2018, SWG sold raffle tickets worth almost 5,500 euros. Of course, the entire amount went to the Tour of Hope.
Gerhard Becker, the organisation manager of the charity tour, and sports managers Karsten Koch and Dr Mathias Rinn also attended the prize-giving ceremony at SWG's headquarters in Lahnstraße. "We are delighted to have a reliable partner on board with Stadtwerke Gießen. The company's contribution over so many years has been invaluable for our project," Gerhard Becker summarised. And Dr Mathias Rinn added: "You can only wish for sponsors like this."
Fighting cancer
The Tour of Hope is not only characterised by enormous personal commitment, but also by the fact that literally every euro raised reaches its destination. The organisers stand by this and the people who donate know this. "Every year, thousands take the opportunity to give a small amount and support a great and, above all, good cause," says Ina Weller. She congratulated the three winners and announced that SWG would once again be involved in the Tour of Hope in 2019: "We will be entering the race again in 2019 with our 'extra chance'." As usual, raffle tickets are available at all events with an SWG stand and from the beginning of March to the end of September at the SWG customer centre on Marktplatz.
