Stadtwerke Giessen (SWG) has been offering free public Wi-Fi in Giessen city centre since the beginning of 2016 - and now also in Staufenberg. SWG customers can even use the fast internet access around the clock, 365 days a year.
Checking emails, checking the current timetable or looking for a restaurant in the neighbourhood - a smartphone with internet access makes it possible to do all this at any time while on the move. Mobile data traffic is growing rapidly. An appropriate infrastructure is therefore needed to make this modern form of communication convenient. Stadtwerke Giessen (SWG) has been providing public Wi-Fi in Giessen city centre since the beginning of 2016 - and recently also in the town of Staufenberg.
The free high-speed access can now be used in and around the town hall. "In Giessen, we have already gained a lot of experience in setting up freely accessible Wi-Fi. Other towns and municipalities that rely on a modern communications infrastructure can now also benefit from this expertise," explains Mike Momberger from the Information Technologies department at SWG.
Unlimited surfing and easy access
Anyone with a WLAN-enabled device can access the SWG WiFi in Staufenberg - free of charge for 30 minutes a day. The only requirement: registration by e-mail, Facebook or Google account.
There is no time limit for SWG customers. All they have to do is authenticate themselves via the SWG online service, choose a user name and password and log in. "Our energy customers can surf the net for as long as they want with a bandwidth of two megabits per second," explains Mike Momberger.
Information on registering for SWG WiFi can be found on the website of Stadtwerke Gießen at www.stadtwerke-giessen.de/swgwifi.
