Giessen is particularly attractive in the run-up to Christmas. The Christmas market and the wide range of shopping opportunities attract many visitors from near and far to the city centre.

Free public transport
"If you plan your shopping trip or visit to the Christmas market by bus, you will save time, nerves and money on Advent Saturdays. This year, visitors from Giessen will not only be able to travel to the city centre by bus in comfort and without having to search for a parking space, but also free of charge. All bus and rail transport in the city centre and between Giessen and Heuchelheim can be used without a ticket in fare zone 1501. "So the motto is: simply leave your car at home on Saturday and use the bus service," recommends Anne Müller-Kreutz, Head of Local Transport Services at SWG. And anyone travelling to work, simply visiting friends or perhaps wanting to go to the swimming pool can of course also enjoy free travel.

Anyone travelling to Giessen from the surrounding area can use the inexpensive day tickets. The group day ticket is particularly favourable here. It allows up to five people to travel by bus and train as often as they like in one day.

P+R shuttle to the Ringallee exhibition centre
If you don't want to leave your car parked, this year you can park for free on the Ringallee exhibition grounds and take a P+R shuttle bus to the city centre for the first time on Advent Saturdays. Two ESE buses will run from the specially set up bus stop on the Messeplatz via the Oswaldsgarten (Neustädter Tor), Marktplatz and Behördenzentrum (Berliner Platz) stops back to the Messeplatz. From 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. approximately every 10 minutes and of course also free of charge.

"With these additional services, we are making it easy for you to get to Giessen city centre. It's worth coming to Giessen," says Mayor Alexander Wright on behalf of the city. "And at the same time, we are promoting the use of our buses, which are an important building block on our path to climate-friendly mobility," says Wright.
