Once again, a suspected fraudster has tried to gain access to the home of a customer of Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG). At the door, he showed the woman a fake ID card with the abbreviation "SPA" and pretended to have to record the meter reading due to an alleged "electricity re-registration". The customer was not fooled and refused the man entry. She also threatened to call the police, whereupon the alleged fraudster disappeared.
"The lady did exactly the right thing," explains Ulli Boos, Head of Marketing at SWG. "Anyone who has doubts should not let anyone into their home and should contact us. The more tips we receive, the greater the chances of putting a stop to the fraudsters."
Anyone who has experienced something similar can contact SWG on the service number 0800 23 02 100 (free of charge from German landlines and all German mobile networks), at the SWG customer centre on Marktplatz or by email at info@stadtwerke-giessen.de.
