Stadtwerke Gießen has always attached great importance to providing sound training for its own junior staff. On 1 February, the company was once again able to offer employment contracts to five trainees who had recently passed their final examinations. The contracts are initially limited to twelve months. But if the new skilled workers prove themselves this year, there is every chance that they could be taken on permanently.

The five young people come from the three central training areas of Stadtwerke: one industrial clerk, two plant mechanics for pipe system technology and two electronics technicians for operating technology learnt their current profession under the expert guidance of experienced trainers. They are likely to be followed by others in the summer. This is because the next examinations are due in June. Three of the 27 trainees currently employed by SWG will be taking part again.

Word has got around in the region that SWG is very successful at training apprentices. In addition to their own trainees, the master craftsmen in the training workshop now also look after young people from around 30 companies. This has made SWG one of the most important training companies in the region. "We take our responsibility for future generations very seriously," emphasises Jens Schmidt, Commercial Director of Stadtwerke Gießen. "And that includes giving young people the best possible start to their careers."
