The number of natural gas vehicles registered in the district of Giessen is steadily increasing. The subsidy programme for natural gas vehicles from Stadtwerke Gießen AG (SWG) is certainly contributing to this positive development. Last Tuesday, Michael Rösner (Head of Private and Commercial Customer Sales) presented the first two users of the subsidy programme with fuel vouchers at the Aral filling station in Marburger Strasse.
Simone Brinkmann from Reiskirchen, who also uses her Fiat Doblo Cargo commercially, received a fuel card for her vehicle, as did Jörg Terhürne from Giessen for his Opel Zafira.
Drivers who opt for a natural gas car save money when refuelling.
With the SWG subsidy programme, natural gas drivers receive a 50 percent discount on the current natural gas price at the Aral station for one year.
All series-produced natural gas vehicles - including used cars - registered on or after 1 March 2009 are eligible. 50% discount can be claimed by displaying an "I drive on natural gas" sticker on the vehicle. This quickly makes it clear who is travelling with the environmentally friendly fuel natural gas.
The advantages
The favourable price and environmental benefits favour natural gas as a fuel. Vehicles optimised for natural gas are characterised by very low pollutant emissions compared to petrol and diesel vehicles. Not only the environment benefits, but also the wallet of the owner of such a vehicle. With natural gas in the tank, you save up to 50 per cent compared to petrol. Compared to diesel, savings of up to 30 per cent can be made.
