On 2 March, Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) inaugurated another fast-charging station for electric vehicles - in the visitor car park opposite the SWG main building in Lahnstraße in Gießen.

Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) is driving forward the energy transition in the region - also in terms of climate-friendly mobility: on Monday, 2 March, it put its second public charging station for electric vehicles into operation. In future, two electric vehicles will be able to charge at the same time in the visitor car park opposite the SWG main administration building at Lahnstraße 31. The rapid charging station has two charging panels, each with two charging points. One is designed for Schuko plugs; the other type 2 provides a charging capacity of up to 22 kilowatts and enables particularly fast charging processes.
Anyone using the charging station in Lahnstraße automatically charges their vehicle with climate-friendly and nuclear-free electrical energy. "Our 'Giessen green electricity' comes from highly efficient combined heat and power plants in Giessen and the region as well as from certified hydropower plants," emphasised Jens Schmidt, Commercial Director of SWG, at the inauguration of the charging station, adding: "Electric cars as well as e-scooters and electric bicycles - such as pedelecs - can be connected to the charging station."

SWG electricity customers charge free of charge
As with the first Stadtwerke Gießen charging station in Pohlheim, SWG electricity customers can use the charging points in Lahnstraße free of charge. All they have to do is apply for a fuel card at the reception desk at SWG's head office in Lahnstraße.
Those who do not purchase electricity from SWG will receive a fuel card for 25 euros, which is valid until the end of the respective calendar year. The electricity is provided free of charge by Stadtwerke Gießen. "We have also come up with a solution for vehicle owners who are only travelling through Giessen," noted SWG company spokesperson Ina Weller. "If they leave us a deposit, they will receive a loan card for the charging period, which can also be used to refuel for zero euros."

SWG hands out the fuel cards during the opening hours of the head office at Lahnstraße 31: Mondays to Thursdays from 8 am to 4 pm and Fridays from 8 am to 1 pm.
