Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) is donating a flipchart and accessories to the volunteer fire brigade association in Dorlar e.V. With the 27th good deed in its anniversary year, SWG is helping the volunteer rescuers with the training and further education of the emergency services and junior staff.
Numerous volunteer fire brigades in the Lahn-Dill district fulfil an important task as helpers in emergency situations: in the event of fires or traffic accidents, the emergency services are usually the first on the scene to rescue injured people and save lives. This also includes Michael Baier from the Energy & Water Networks department at Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG). He has been an active member of several volunteer fire brigades since the age of 17 - depending on where he lives. "For me, being a volunteer rescuer is a natural part of the job and it has always helped me to integrate into a new community and make friends after moving," explains the SWG employee. Based on his experience, he also knows that the budget of fire brigade associations is often not sufficient to finance all the necessary purchases. He therefore had the idea of helping the emergency services from Dorlar with a donation in kind and suggested this as one of SWG's 75 good deeds in its anniversary year. Michael Baier recently presented a symbolic donation cheque as well as a flipchart and accessories to Andrea Weber, head of the Dorlar volunteer fire brigade. "We have to regularly update our firefighters, train the next generation and provide fire safety education in kindergartens and schools. We need suitable equipment for these lessons. This includes a new flipchart, for example, for which we currently lack the financial resources. This is because the municipality and the fire brigade association only recently provided the money for the renovation of the fire station - quite a large investment," explained the fire chief when handing over the cheque. She was all the more pleased about SWG's good deed and thanked them for the donation.
