Energy-efficient refurbishment: easier than most people think

On 30 June 2026, Stadtwerke Gießen is hosting an event as part of its ‘Energiewissen am Dienstag’ lecture series, inviting people to learn about the wide range of options available for energy-efficient refurbishment.

Rising energy costs, ambitious climate targets and a growing awareness of sustainable living: the question of how to significantly reduce one’s own energy consumption is currently on the minds of more people than ever before. This is precisely where the talk ‘Energy-efficient refurbishment – easier than most people think’ comes in, which Stadtwerke Gießen is offering as a free online talk on Tuesday 30 June 2026 at 5.30 pm.

“Many homeowners are put off by energy-efficient refurbishment because they cannot gauge the effort involved,” explains Moritz Müller, energy consultant at Stadtwerke Gießen. “Yet there are numerous measures that can be implemented on a manageable budget and still have a significant impact – both on your wallet and on the climate.”

Basics and practical recommendations
The talk is aimed at owners of residential buildings and flats, but also at tenants who wish to improve the energy efficiency of their building or flat. First, an expert will explain the necessary basics: How is heat transferred? Where is it lost? And how can a building’s actual heat demand be determined? Building on this, specific recommendations for action will be provided, categorised by cost – ranging from simple, low-cost immediate measures to more comprehensive investments.

Another key focus is on providing participants with practical guidance. For example, on how to identify components of their own building that are problematic from an energy efficiency perspective, and what funding opportunities are currently available to ease the financial burden of a refurbishment. The good news is that there is plenty of support available. “This shows once again that now is a good time to look into this issue,” emphasises the energy adviser.
