On Sunday 10 September, the Ringallee outdoor pool closes its doors for the year. Due to the mixed weather, the number of visitors fell slightly. Nevertheless, Stadtwerke Gießen is satisfied with the results.
Sunshine with temperatures between 25 and 30 degrees - that's what perfect outdoor pool weather looks like. The summer of 2017 only showed this good side on a few days. Above all, there was a lack of longer periods of swimming weather. So it's no wonder that the number of visitors to the Ringallee outdoor pool fell slightly compared to 2016 to around 90,000. Uwe Volbrecht, Head of Swimming Pools at Stadtwerke Gießen, nevertheless draws a positive balance: "Last year, the summer put in a furious final spurt. This is missing in 2017, which is why we are still satisfied with the results of the outdoor pool season." One of the special highlights: the "Play your game" action day on 27 August. Several clubs from Giessen and the region presented themselves and their sports. Bathing guests took the opportunity to try out the wide range of activities on offer and put their handball or football skills to the test, for example.
Things continue under the indoor roof
Until Sunday 10 September, people from Giessen and the region still have the opportunity to swim in the open air and increase the number of bathers. If the sun is shining at full strength again by then, the new large umbrellas on the grounds of the outdoor pool will also be used. "We installed the additional UV protection at the beginning of the year. The shade providers were particularly popular with families," reveals Uwe Volbrecht.
The semester ticket scheme was also well received. Students from Giessen's universities were given a chip at the ticket office of the Ringallee outdoor pool on presentation of their semester ticket, which they could use to access the outdoor pool during normal opening hours - once a day.
While the outdoor pool is now taking a break for a few months, the autumn and winter season in the indoor pool is just getting underway. "We've made a lot of progress over the past few months. Visitors can look forward to a completely refurbished entrance area with a new counter and a shop. Anyone entering the Ringallee swimming centre will not recognise it," promises Uwe Volbrecht.
Information on opening times and prices for the SWG pools is available from the service telephone on 0641 708-1411 and on the Stadtwerke Gießen website at www.swg-baeder.de.
