Team nach Erreichen des dritten Platzes beim Drachenboot-Festival auf dem Fühlinger See.
The Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) dragon boat team impressed last weekend at the dragon boat festival on Fühlinger See near Cologne and secured third place.
A total of 48 teams met on 11 June for the dragon boat festival on Fühlinger See in the north of Cologne. The "pipers" from Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) also took part. They were able to hold their own in a first-class starting field. Only two performance-orientated club teams, who like to use such races among company teams as additional training sessions, were faster. After four races of 250 metres each, they pulled ahead of the SWG boat, which ultimately finished the regatta in an excellent third place.
Angela Müller, a passionate and long-standing dragon boat paddler with the "Rohrlegers", expressed her enthusiasm after the races: "Everything was just right today, everyone gave their all at exactly the right time. And so we were rewarded with third place." Once again, the SWG boat proved how important team spirit is in dragon boating.
Training on land and on the water
The SWG dragon boat team laid the foundations for their excellent performance on the Lahn. Together with coach Uli Kohlitz, they go out on the water once a week to improve their technique, coordination and stamina. Individual sessions and "dry runs" are also part of the training plan.
The "Rohrleger" team wants to build on its success in Cologne soon - for example on 9 and 10 July at the dragon boat race in Schierstein and on 20 August at the home event in Giessen.
