In light of recent events, SWG is once again issuing a clear warning against concluding energy contracts at the front door: Another brazen attempt at fraud has come to light in Giessen.
The cases of fraud continue. Once again, a man has attempted to do dishonest business at the front door. Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) therefore urgently recommends being vigilant and looking closely. The approach this time: a municipal utility customer received a visit from a brazen fraudster. He pretended to be a cooperation partner of SWG and to be able to offer new tariffs with more favourable conditions. In fact, the contract that he then quickly presented to the customer for signature bore the name of another provider. Particularly perfidious: the man presented an energy consultant's certificate that had no connection with SWG.
Act correctly
In a situation like this, it is actually best not to enter into a conversation and close the door again. Fraudsters often try to gain entry with obscure requests. Under no circumstances should you let a stranger into your home and comply with a request to present the current energy contract for inspection or even show them the meter cupboard. "Once the fraudster has the signature and meter number, it is easy for them to deregister the customer from the municipal utility company and register them with a new provider," warns Ulli Boos. In these cases, Stadtwerke offers its support to the victims and tries to avert the consequences.
Help requested
In recent weeks, there have been an increasing number of such attempts at manipulation, both at the front door and by telephone. "We advise you to always be very sceptical and ask you to inform us immediately of such attempts at fraud," emphasises Ulli Boos. In the current case, the customer concerned came to the SWG customer centre on Marktplatz.
