A customer of Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) from Pohlheim describes the feeling she had recently after receiving an advertising call from a low-cost electricity provider as "not quite right". The woman on the other end of the line had claimed to be an energy consultant and had given her the customer details. The woman from Pohlheim was unsure whether the caller was working on behalf of SWG and did not take up the offer, but contacted the municipal utility's customer service immediately. "She behaved absolutely correctly," emphasises SWG company spokeswoman Ina Weller, adding: "We can't explain how the caller knew that the lady from Pohlheim was a customer of ours. SWG does not pass on any personal data to third parties." However, Ina Weller also knows: "Some providers use every means at their disposal to win new customers." She therefore warns against carelessly signing contracts at the front door or over the phone and disclosing customer data. "If you suspect that something might be wrong, our employees will help you at any time," assures the SWG company spokesperson.
SWG customer service staff can be reached on the service number 0800 23 02 100 (free of charge from the German landline network and all German mobile phone networks) from Monday to Friday from 7 am to 7 pm.
