Diversion for nine bus routes

In order to connect more properties to the district heating network, SWG will have to reroute nine bus routes.

On 18 August, Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) will begin connecting customers in Neustadt Street to the district heating network. In order to do this, SWG will have to completely close the carriageway between house number 23 and Pfarrgarten street. This is because the main pipeline runs on the other side of the road, which makes it necessary to dig pipe trenches across the carriageway. Despite the closure, residents will of course have free access to the construction site. This also applies to suppliers delivering goods to the Neustädter shopping centre. A diversion has been set up and signposted for through traffic. If everything goes according to plan, the work should be completed at the beginning of October.

"We are doing everything we can to minimise the inconvenience for residents and local businesses," explains SWG company spokesperson Ulli Boos. This is also reflected in the fact that SWG is taking the opportunity to renew some of the street lighting at the same time. As the trades can work simultaneously, this will not extend the construction period.

Buses will be rerouted

Neustadt Street is an important link to the central bus stop in Giessen - the "Marktplatz". SWG will have to divert a total of nine routes due to the closure. Specifically, lines 2, 3, 7, 12, 13, 800, 801, 802 and the Venus night bus are affected. Important for all those who are currently changing at Marktplatz: For the duration of the work, only lines 2, 5, 9 (line taxi) and 15 will be travelling to the "Marktplatz" stop. So if you want to change to another line, you will temporarily only find your correct connection at the "Berliner Platz" or "Behördenzentrum" stop.

The "Oswaldsgarten" stop will be completely cancelled. Line 2 will also not be able to serve the "Bahnhofstraße" stop. Instead, it will stop at the "Katharinengasse" and "City-Center" stops. Lines 3, 7, 12, 13, 800, 801, 802 and the Venus night bus will alternatively stop at "Mühlstraße" in the Westanlage and "Johanneskirche" in the Südanlage.

SWG's local transport experts are expecting delays due to this massive change to the route. "We apologise to all passengers for the restrictions and ask them to allow a little more time," adds Ulli Boos.
