District heating for Wilsonstraße
SWG is connecting parts of Wilsonstraße to the district heating network.
To enable more and more residents of Gießen to benefit from the convenience of district heating, Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) is continuing to expand the necessary network. As the pipes through which the hot water flows from the generation plants to individual properties run underground, such network expansion usually leads to road closures in the streets where the well-insulated pipes are being laid.
Such a construction project is now due to take place on Wilsonstraße. The section affected runs from house number 1 to 11. Work in this area will commence on 5 October. However, SWG will not only be laying district heating pipes. “We are making use of the civil engineering work that is required anyway to replace ageing drinking water pipes,” explains SWG company spokesperson Ulli Boos. Furthermore, the city of Gießen is having the road surface resurfaced as part of the construction project.
If everything goes according to plan, SWG will be able to complete the work by the end of 2026. The weather will play a key role here, as frost or heavy rain over an extended period could lead to delays.
Important to note: due to the road closure, it will not be possible to access properties at times. Furthermore, all publicly available parking spaces will be unavailable. “We ask everyone affected for their understanding and are doing everything we can to minimise inconvenience for local residents,” adds Ulli Boos.
