Stadtwerke Gießen offers a practical service with the SWG key depot. They store spare keys safely and keep them available around the clock.
Pulling the front door shut in the daily stress and being locked out - everyone has actually experienced this situation at some point. At the BauExpo, back in March, Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) presented a solution to this everyday, but sometimes extremely annoying and costly problem: the SWG key depot. Customers can deposit spare keys here. Securely protected from unauthorised access, but still always accessible. "Apparently people have been looking for just such a service," explains Michael Rösner, Head of Sales for Private and Commercial Customers at SWG. Many expressed their interest.
But then came corona. "Due to the lockdown and the restrictions that were previously in place, we were unable to receive and advise those interested in our new offer as usual," Michael Rösner continues, adding: "We would like to take this opportunity to thank you once again for the understanding you have shown us over the past few weeks."

How does the SWG key depot work? SWG has set up a special cabinet in the head office in Lahnstraße where the keys are stored. This is a well-chosen location. Because there is always someone on duty at the gate, access to this safe is guaranteed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This makes customers independent of neighbours, who are not always available if a mishap occurs - keyword: holidays.
There are two ways to secure the key on the locker itself or to remove it if the worst comes to the worst: a finger scan or a numerical code. Both options require a PIN - i.e. a personal identification number - as additional security.

The cost of this practical service is five euros per month. "Considering the amounts that are due when a locksmith has to come to open a door that has fallen into the lock, this is a manageable and fair price," says Michael Rösner.
